UNDERSTANDING GOD’S ARMOR – Robert Schaetzle

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” (Ephesians 6:17 ESV).

It’s been nearly 50 years ago now when I was truly introduced to a real personal relationship of intimacy with our Lord. I made my personal confession of faith 62 years ago at age 15. Before, I hadn’t recognized my relationship with God was just a casual acquaintance. It wasn’t until I came to the place where I truly wanted and needed His preeminence over my life that things changed.

I’ve read that as of 2021 there are an estimated 2.5 billion Christians worldwide. However, how many are true ‘followers of Christ?’ I don’t ask to be condescending, but wonder what percentage of those who wear His Name, really know Him and His Word?  This brings intimacy to the One who created us.  Also, never be ashamed to wear His uniform! I was one of those for too many years—a casual follower who was not equipped for Spiritual warfare as described in (Ephesians 6:10-17 ESV).

In later years, I was blessed to have two of my sons and one grandson serve a total of 18 years in our nation’s armed forces. As in spiritual warfare, they had to understand their weapons and learn how to use them.  In our quest to conquer the fiery darts of the evil one, we too, need to put on God’s armor and live by His Word. His Word teaches us how to do Spiritual warfare. I continue to do this daily, asking our Lord to keep knocking at the hearts of all five my children as well as my grandchildren, so that He would equip all those I love.

Father… open our hearts to want intimacy with you, and we ask your Holy Spirit to give wisdom and counsel in learning how to wear your armor and live by the ‘Sword of the Spirit’— which is the Word of God.  AMEN
